Entitlement

Word of the Day: Entitlement

Entitlement is a guarantee of access to benefits because of rights or by agreement through law. It also refers, in a more casual sense, to someone's belief that one is deserving of some particular reward or benefit.[1] It is often used as a pejorative term in popular parlance (i.e. a 'sense of entitlement').

Comment:
No one deserves ANYTHING. Life is hard work so work hard like the rest of us!

My mom always used to say... "Want in one hand and shit in the other and see which one fills up faster." Good point. Thanks mom.

Send a Note of "Thank You For Your Service and Happy Birthday" to Sgt. Thornhill

I was listening to Dr. Laura yesterday and I heard her talk about this and I thought it was a good thing to share. I got this off of her website www.drlaura.com if you want to get more information.

It won't take long to make a simple birthday card to let just one of the many soldiers serving our country in battle know how much we appreciate what they have given for us as Americans. Thank you Sgt. Thornhill!

Sgt. Daniel Thornhill was seriously injured in Afghanistan two years ago by a suicide bomber. This soldier has lost both legs, is paralyzed from the waist down and has suffered severed burns over his arms, hands and body. He has been rehabbing at the Fisher House in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. (WOAI.com article: Veteran loses limbs in battle, but not hope) His parents have reached out for support -- not financially, but they are asking for as many service members, veterans, and others as possible to please send him a birthday card. His birthday is this coming week and it would be nice if a lot of us send him a note to show him how much we love him for what he has sacrificed for his country. And if you're in the in the San Antonio area, stop by and visit not only this troop but others who may be in the same situation and Sgt. Thornhill and his family. Please brighten the day of a hero. Our very good friends Jenna and Chaz had a St. Patty's Day/ Birthday party to celebrate Chaz turning 26! There was green everywhere, delicious food and amazing guests. It was tons of fun! (So much fun that Jake and I stayed the night and the entire house slept in until 11:00 am!) Here are a couple pics....

Here are 3 of my favorite girls! Brittany, Trieste and Jenna.

Cupcakes!

My sis and I decorated some adorable cupcakes for a bridal shower for her hubby's cousin (they are getting married in Ireland... perfect timing with the St. Patty's day cupcake decorations everywhere!). I just thought they were so cute that I would share them! Good job Mrs. Skilletz!

Dog Beach

We had a little family outing at dog beach in HB. Lily was pretty good. She LOVES the water! She is however intimidated by the larger dogs that are playing catch all over the place and she got a wee bit aggressive. We are working on submitting her so she knows who's boss! We went a little dog-whisperer on her ass! I think we are nerds who are just way to in to their dog... but just look at her!

We tell people she is a mini-Golden Retriever.
Mom, stop taking pictures of me!

American Dream.

I am going to take a minute to "brag" about my life... and I can, it's my blog!

My hubby and I were talking last night and we were gloating about how much we love our lives and how lucky we are for all we have. We are truly living the American Dream. We have a condo. It might not be the biggest condo in the world or the nicest, but it is our home and we love living here together. We just bought a new car. It was my mom's car, it is used and it was inexpensive but it is ours. We have our little dog who makes us laugh and smile every day and makes us proud to know that we have given her a better life. Most importantly we have each other. We love each other more everyday. We make each other laugh and smile (and sometimes yell). We also have the most amazing families on earth who have taught us how to love and how to be loved, and who have given us such an amazing example of what a relationship is all about.

The thing that makes us most proud of all of the "things" we have is how hard we have worked for them. My husband might not have a permanent job so-to-speak, but he wakes up every day at 5:00 and looks for a substitute job until he finds one. If he doesn't find one, he goes out and hands in resumes. He NEVER gives up. It makes me so proud to wake up and go to work every day and earn an income to help my husband so we can have our condo and our dog and our life. We are a team. If something is not making us happy, we fix it. I feel like I am the luckiest girl on earth. We are lucky in a sense, that we have our amazing, supportive families but, we are not lucky to have all of the things we have. We EARNED them. I am not trying to brag about all of the "things" we have because the most important things in life aren't "things". I am bragging about the fact that we have them together and it just doesn't get any better than that!

We may not have it all together but, together we have it all!

His Birthday!

Well, this Sunday is my hubby's birthday! He is going to be 28 years of age... old man! Anywho, we are having the whole fam damnly over for chili to celebrate. It is going to be my first time "entertaining" my family and my family-in-law (I just invented that word). I am so excited. It will be good times for sure. Then later, after the old farts leave (ha ha mom!)... If any of our homies want to come hang out, you are all invited and more than welcome!

I am so excited about a super secret surprise I am working on for his birthday too... you will all have to wait as well! :) My sista is the only one who has any idea of what I might be talking about... I will post a photo once the mission is complete.

HAPPY FRIDAY TO ALL! ... and don't spend too much money on Valentine's Day, it's a crock, just love your husband/boyfriend/wife/girlfriend every day of the year! (I didn't say you have to like them every day!)

Brooke the Designer.

Well here are some of the pictures of our recent remodel job... I am going to have to dig up some before shots too... Our kitchen used to be completely closed in and the wall that now has the bar went all the way up to the ceiling. My husband and his fasha (like from Austin Powers... Ashtun Powas Fasha) did all of the work themselves, with my direction! (I tried not to be too demanding) Anyway, our condo used to be totally closed in and divided and now it is so much more open! We can't afford new counters at the present time so we decided to paint a piece of wood white and I had a piece of glass cut to put on top. I think it actually looks pretty darn good myself! Anyway, I will try to find some before pictures to post later.

Brooke the Artist.

Okay, so our walls are completely bare... drives me crazy but, I can't afford too much at this point in my life. Well, Aaron Brothers in Anaheim Hills is going out of business... everything in the store 50% off! Woo hoo. I decided I would buy some canvas' and paint and give it a shot. I really can't do anything from my imagination, so I looked at another artists work and went from there... They aren't great but I did my best and at least we have some darn color on our walls! My hubby took some action shots. Man I love that almost birthday boy!

Hi all! Long time no post, eh?

I have been super busy working on our condo, and I haven't had a darn second to blog it up. Well I probably did have a sec or two, but I had better things to do! Anywho, our condo is looking so awesome, I really want to post pictures of it but, I don't have the dang cord with me! Excuses, excuses. I am totally due for some pics....soon!

I just read some very sad news. Freestyle motocross rider Jeremy Lusk died today from injuries he suffered in a competition on Saturday. It is very scary to me considering one of my husband's favorite things to do is jump his dirt bike. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. (You can click on his name for the story.)

Oh yeah, and how about the crazy biznitch Nadya Suleman? She utterly infuriates me! What she has done is in excusable and disgusting and she should be arrested.... Tell us how you really feel Brooke! I could go on for days, and days about this but, I won't. You can click on her name to see the interview with Ann Curry.... Oh and for those of you who don't know, she is the Octuplet mother.... Yuck! Oh and how does someone on welfare and disability afford all that plastic surgery... those lips ain't real hunny!

New Year... More "Stuff" to do!

I feel like I am on a never-ending boat ride to Catch-up-ville. When will it ever end? I guess I should be grateful, like my siter, that I have a job... and I am.

Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE the Rocky movies. When "Rocky Balboa" came out I told my mom it should have won an Oscar. Well, it was on T.V. last night and I was reminded of a great line in the movie and I wanted to share it.

..."no one hits harder than life... but it's not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward."

Aint that the truth. Sing it Rocky!

He's My Everything.

The best part of me, without a doubt, is my husband! I dedicate the song "Everything" by Michael Buble to him. The line that fits us the best is... "your the line in the sand when I go to far"... God knows I go too far once in a while! Just thought I would share. Happy Tuesday!

Lily...spayed!

I had to drop my little Lily-legs off at her grandmas this morning so she could drop her off at her surgery appointment... mom and dad have to work! She is FINALLY going to be spayed! We have been wanting to do it for so long but we have been waiting for a place that was a little more affordable. It really adds up! She is going to the Garden Grove Humane Society this morning. I feel so bad for my little angel. She had no idea what was coming. I can't wait to hold her tonight and take care of her little angel face. Thanks for the ride Grandma Cynnie!

Oh and.... my hubby is officially done with his credential program!!!! I am so excited for him! He has one week of student teaching left after this week and then he can get a job!!!! Yahoo. He is so excited and I am so unbelievably proud of him. He has worked so hard and it is finally going to pay off... his wifey even bought him a new wet-suit for him to celebrate his graduation with some killer lefts and rights bro!

Kate's Blog.

Okay so my sisters blog today inspired me. I have made the decision that I am going to cuss less. I have a freakin' potty mouth and I talk horribly. I notice myself talk sometimes and I think, gosh, my husband married a truck driver! I need to act more lady like. So, today is day one of operation cuss less. Wish me luck! Thanks Kate.

It's 2009!

Wow, it is hard to believe that we are beginning yet another year! Time really does fly when you get older. I know everyone says that, but boy is it the truth!

I had an eventful couple of weeks over the holidays. It started with the construction at our condo the weekend before Christmas. The pinch of drywall in my cookies made them the best around... or so my husband said. We had a crazy Christmas Eve, travelling from the hubby's grandma's house, to my grandma's house to my parents house where we all spent the night! It was a really fun night with my family. My mom bought us all pajamas and we made the boys wear them too. We opened presents and drank tea and played with our doggies. Then Christmas day after waking up at mom and pop Pauly's house, we went over to mom and pop Smith's house. We opened more presents and drank some Baileys and milk. Yum, yum. Of course Jake and his brother got motorcycle parts for Christmas so they had to spend some time out in the garage!

After our eventful Christmas we headed out to the desert for some dirtbiking with the family. It was good times as usual but, the coldest it has been out there in a long time! I believe it was in the 20's at night.... and we were in a tent! Yikes. We then headed home on Sunday for preparation for our next adventure.

For New Years Eve, we went out to dinner with our friends to a restaurant called Opah in Irvine. It was such a good meal, the best of 2008! It was a very relaxing evening, and I was glad it wasn't too crazy for us old married people!

Then New Yeard Day we headed out to San Elijo for some beach camping. It was tons of fun! A little cold, but tons of fun. My sis and I planned our meals for every day... the wifey thing to do. The boys surfed, the girls talked... just perfect. We got to hang out with some great friends who we don't get to see as often as we would like.... :) And their noble dog!

Anyway, here we are in 2009. Can't believe it. Time to make some new memories! Let's get to it.
